Montague SeahawksThe Seahawks Swim Team started life in September of 1991 with the opening of the Town & Country Aquatics Plus facility in Montague, Now the Atlantic Fitness Center.

Originally the swim team was called the TCAP Aquacats. Coaching was provided by former swimmers, Jan Coffin, a former Bluephin, Cathy Blackwood, formerly of Edmonton, and Marion Sullivan of Montague. Each had at least one child swimming. The Blackwood family, with ten children, made up a large component of the Team. Barney Bree became Coach in 1992 following a move from the Bluephins were he had coached from 1985. He still coached with the Bluephins part time until 1995. Kathy MacIsaac, came on deck in 1998; Freda McKie, 2000; Nicky McKie, 2004.

The Swim Team name change came about in 1993 when some of the swimmers wanted a new image. The name “Seahawks” was selected by the swimmers and a logo was designed by Simone Flynn, a “Seahawks” swimmer.

Initially the name did not identify Montague, the thought being that they really had swimmers from all over the eastern part of the Island. The prefix of Montague just grew! The team started out with some fifteen swimmers, increased to thirty and is now settled at 17. Gerald Beaulieu and Tanya Hart began coaching in 2005, keeping practises at 3 days/week.

Swimmers now compete at local, regional, national and meets. Two are currently on the Canada Games training Team and we are working towards the East Coast Championships in March 2008 and the Canada Games at Cari Charlottetown in 2009.

A number of swim meets have been held at the TCAP pool and many parents have become Officials while attending the local meets.
